HALO™ Laser Skin Resurfacing vs. BBL: 3 Key Differences

When it comes to laser skin rejuvenation, two of the most popular treatments available today are HALO™ laser skin resurfacing and BBL (BroadBand Light. While both treatments target similar concerns, they operate differently and offer unique benefits. Here are the three big differences between HALO™ and BBL.

1. Halo Uses Dual Laser Wavelengths, Whereas BBL Uses Broadband Light

HALO™ is a hybrid fractional laser that uses both ablative and non-ablative lasers to stimulate collagen production and rejuvenate the skin. This combination provides dramatic results without the discomfort or downtime typically associated with other laser skin resurfacing treatments.

On the other hand, BBL uses broadband light, an advanced form of intense pulsed light (IPL). This light breaks up melanin and blood vessels in the skin, targeting redness and dark spots. The heat from the light causes redness to fade gradually, while dark spots come to the surface and flake away.

2. Halo Is Ideal for Texture Concerns, While BBL Excels at Surface-Level Pigmentation

HALO™ penetrates deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production, resulting in a smoother, more elastic surface. It is perfect for treating fine lines, large pores, uneven texture, and acne scars. It also addresses uneven pigmentation, giving the face a healthy glow.

If your primary concern is surface-level pigmentation, such as sunspots, age spots, freckles, birthmarks, blood vessels, or rosacea, BBL is the better option. It gently and effectively targets these issues, leaving your skin clearer and more even-toned.

3. BBL Has a Faster Recovery Time, But May Require More Treatments

BBL treatments are known for being gentle, with minimal recovery time. You may experience some redness and sensitivity to the sun, which typically resolves within a few days. HALO™ has a slightly longer recovery time, with redness lasting a couple of days followed by some flaking. However, most patients only need 1 or 2 deep HALO™ treatments, whereas BBL usually requires 3 to 6 treatments for optimal results.

HALO™ offers flexibility in treatment intensity. You can choose several gentle treatments with shorter recovery times or opt for 1 or 2 more aggressive treatments with longer recovery times, depending on your goals.

Combining BBL & HALO™

If you're unsure whether BBL or HALO™ is right for you, a combined approach might be the answer. Some clinics perform these treatments together to rejuvenate your skin and address surface-level pigmentation issues.
